Erica Utilities: With Tweeting Power

Erica Sadun | 12:16 pm | August 6, 2008 | 2.0, Test Requests, Update, Admin, Utilities

Just added tweet to the updated 2.0 Erica Utilities. Pass it three arguments: your twitter name, your twitter password and your tweet (use quotes to keep it as one argument). I’ll be writing this up over at O’Reilly for Friday.

Hi Erica! I just donwloaded the from Installer Erica’s Utilities V0.55 (I’m running under an Ipod touch 32GB 1.1.4 Ziphoned) and it just erased my Contacts Widget. Could you tell me how to recover it please? You have my contact info.. im sure it would be just a scond for you ..but for me it would be like man y hour of searching…

Comment by Erica Sadun | August 8, 2008 | 3:08 pm

Seriously, I have nothing to do with your widget. Complain to the Installer folks.

Will we ever see Send Pic on firmware 2.0?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

Its the only app that allow for full res uploads. It is a lifesaver not to have to go to a computer to upload photos.

I would pay for it if it was on the app store or donate if not.

Thank you.

Is there a utility to check the ringerState? I’d like to see a command line utility to see if the phone is muted or not, that way I can make the decision to use your play utility to play a notification.

This is unrelated to this post, But this is a question to Erica. I was wondering if you were looking into an application for the iphone 3g (2.0 version) to send file using the bluetooth. Could make alot of mone out of this, i certainly would pay. I saw you had an older one for previous versions. Any ideas for the new iphone??

When O when will these great utilities work with iPhone 2.0?

Comment by deeeep | August 15, 2008 | 6:53 am

uploaded the beta13 tools, but all I get is “Killed”… I don’t like to get killed and miss updating my location in fireeagle, now that Navizon is missing for iPhone 2…

Comment by Erica Sadun | August 15, 2008 | 8:27 am

deeeeep: You have to sign programs in 2.0. Do:

apt-get install ldid

And then to run my utilities, first make them executable

chmod 755 (whichever utilility)

and then sign it:

ldid -S (the same utliity)

thanks! must have skipped that bit somewhere, maybe good to put it in the readme page of the utils!

Had the previous version run every hour using cron.
Maybe I missed something, but I can’t find cron on my iPhone w 2.0.1?

I’m yet to find an application that works like a calling card, so I’m havng to build a web based phonebook and I’d like to be able to use your urlclip

urlclip “tel://0212321373,1020″
Usage: urlclip

See the , I need to add that pause, would this be possible somehow?

Comment by icepick | August 18, 2008 | 7:04 pm

iPhone:~ root# openURL “tel://0212321373p1020″
that worked

Erica, have you released the source code for the these utilities? If not, I would really like to see the source for the “launch” progam. I would like to create a python interpreter that runs from SpringBoard so I can experiment with UIKit on the command line. Thx.

Erica,

I tried to do “apt-get install ldid” in terminal, but I got this:

My-iPod:~ mobile$ apt-get install ldid
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13 Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?

Any idea why? Or do you know where I can download the file directly so I can just SSH it?

=/

Comment by wivku | August 21, 2008 | 11:53 am

@MountainDew:
The answer is actually in the sentence above your question… you are logged in as user mobile, need to login as root or “sudo apt-get install ldid”

Comment by MountainDew | August 21, 2008 | 1:53 pm

I’m sorry, I’m really bad at this. I installed sudo with Cydia, and then I did “sudo apt-get install ldid” but it gave me a schpeil and then asked for a password. Does this have something to do with the sudoers file? :/

Or maybe this’ll be simpler, how do I login to root?

Comment by wivku | August 21, 2008 | 1:57 pm

default password (but change when you have SSH installed…): alpine

Comment by MountainDew | August 21, 2008 | 2:07 pm

My-iPod:~ mobile$ sudo apt-get install ldid
[lecture]
Password:
(alpine)
mobile is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

Comment by MountainDew | August 21, 2008 | 2:17 pm

And I suppose you login as root with

su root
alpine

But I get:

su: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted

Comment by MountainDew | August 21, 2008 | 2:28 pm

ugh sorry for all the comments, but this time I did sudo apt-get install ldid and then got the lecture and typed in alpine, and it went back to “My-iPod:~ mobile$” without any errors. Is that a good thing?

Comment by MountainDew | August 21, 2008 | 3:04 pm

Nevermind, mobileterminal sucks. I installed putty and it all went well.
