Jailbreak Erica Utilities 8, er…9, no make that 10
Erica Sadun | 10:30 am | July 22, 2008 | 2.0, Test Requests, Utilities
Minor bug fixes plus recAudio audio recorder. For some reason, I could not play my recordings back from /var/root but if I moved them into /var/mobile they played back fine. Recordings are automatically timestamped. Also added itmsSearch, command line iTunes store search and appSearch for the App Store. All the new items are now back in the Erica Utilities 2.0 folder.

Erica,
do you have a TAP equivalent for 2.0? Was wondering if there was an easy way to run some of these utils via the gui.

Erica,
Is the sendFileByMail feature implementable? I guess I want to be able to use sendFileByMail with something like FileMagnet.

iPocket supports sending files by mail. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do that with a command line utility
Comment by jasonjei | July 22, 2008 | 11:23 am
That’s a shame. I really liked sendfile/sendFileByMail and being able to compose a new mail with an attachment I saved onto my phone with the built-in mail app.
I’m guessing iPocket will work by reconfiguring SMTP? I guess I could do the same approach by forwarding a mail attachment to myself and composing my message in it.

iPocket works by setting up an smtpauth session. Apple got rid of attachments from the iPhone via mailto:
iPocket combines many other apps including SendFile

Ah, makes sense. I’m going to write Apple a bug repot for the mailto function. It seems like such a hassle to developers to go around the attachment sending proposition since every app is going to be implementing their own SMTP client. What does this mean to the users? They’ve got to configure it for their SMTP server every time. Seems very anti-Apple given the ease of the AppStore.

Not exactly related to the post but as it is, playaudio can only read audio files, correct? would it be possible to modify it to take input from stdin, like aplay on ALSA?

Erica,
I am new to the community, have an Itouch that I can ssh into, and want to start exploring and trying out your utilities. Can you recommend a site where I can start reading up on recommended practices when doing this?
thanks

Erica,
I just started to play around with your utilities. Most work as I expect them to, but launch and openurl don’t seem to do anything. I expected them to bring up the application on my iphone screen when run (e.g. launch Stocks.app), but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Comment by Erica Sadun | July 24, 2008 | 11:28 am
launch com.apple.stocks
openurl http://ericasadun.com

Thanks. Not sure why I couldn’t get openurl to work before but now it does.
So, launch doesn’t work directly on the application but an entry in a plist that Springboard uses?

Erica,
so how would one do to use the new openURL with some homemade icons to have “quick-dial” apps on the Springboard like with the 1.1.x (with openURL & url.txt) ? I’ve tried by changing just the executable, but i guess that would’ve been far too easy, the app just launches and is then killed…
Works just fine from the Terminal so it should be possible i imagine.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Don’t use openURL for that. Use urlclip to make the springboard icons and then just substitute in your art instead of the safari icons.
Comment by sebastian | July 25, 2008 | 7:52 am
Thanks for the reply.
However why is that ? openURL was nice in that it opens directly in phone whereas urlclip works like a weblink and has to be confirmed before the call is initiated. Two taps against one. Is there no workaround ?
Thanks again.

I was just curious if you were still planning on releasing either xlaunch or appflow for the jailbroken phones and how development is going. thank you.
Comment by Erica Sadun | July 27, 2008 | 9:43 am
AppFlow is under development. I have a ton of feedback from testers and need to add those changes before it hits Cydia

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you possibly have an eta?

I would love it if “picSnap” was made for 2.0, or maybe the old version works in 2.0?
Comment by psychozz | July 30, 2008 | 3:04 pm
Oh! Almost forgot, “Tapp” is also a utility that I can’t live without, hope you are planning on making a 2.0 compatible version!
Comment by logansbro | August 10, 2008 | 3:57 pm
I’d also love to see Tapp and picSnap updated for 2.0.

launch com.apple.Calculator doesn’t seem to work using fw 2.2+
Comment by Erica Sadun | January 31, 2009 | 8:38 pm
launch com.apple.Calculator doesn’t work but launch com.apple.calculator does
Lower case ftw

Hi Erica,
launch com.apple.calculator doesn’t work for me neither. I also tried other applications such as launch com.apple.stocks etc… but it’s the same. However it worked when my iPhone was 2.1.
Can you take a look at it? Thanks.
