Launch Daemon hack18 Comments

Erica Sadun | 3:34 pm | March 5, 2008 | Admin

Jnewland suggests that you add an exit 0 line to the end of whatever script is run by the findme launch daemon. That’s a zero, not an “O”. I’ve done that to mine. I’ll let you know if this prevents the daemon from becoming cranky. I’m also still working on custom URL submission for findme and for a 30-second deadman switch that exits gracefully if web calls hang.

There’s a new version of findme called firefindme in the TUAW findme folder. This version allows you to report your location to Yahoo’s new FireEagle location service. In order to use this utility with FireEagle, you’ll need to run two utilities: start with authtoken, which will launch Safari and ask you to log into Fire Eagle and authorize the FindMe application. Then run authcheck to retrieve your authorization certificate. You’re then golden to start using the -F option with findme.

I have a bunch of FireEagle invites, so leave a comment if you’d like one. I’ll need to respond to your comment so make sure you registered with a valid email.

New Utility: deviceinfo4 Comments

Erica Sadun | 6:43 pm | March 4, 2008 | Test Requests, Update, Utilities, iPod touch, iPhone

By request, deviceinfo is in the individual Erica Utilities folder. It returns the platform (iPhone or iPod), code, serial number, imei, and model number from the command line.

./deviceinfo : options
-p platform
-c platform code (e.g. M68AP or N45AP)
-s serial number
-i imei
-m model number

App Focus: SendPics, SendFile, SendSong, ToDo, etc.22 Comments

SendPics Last night, I think I cracked the whole getting pictures from the library as well as the DCIM folder thing. Is anyone interested in my expanding SendPics (which sends full-resolution images by email) to pictures that weren’t snapped on the iPhone?

SendFile SendFile is still a big-old hack. Depending on how Apple delivers the SDK, do any of you think it’s worth a re-look? I’d have to redesign it from the ground up. So think about what you might want SendFile to do and give me some ideas of where you’d like to see it go.

SendSong I updated SendSong to 1.1.3 as a favor for a friend. Is there still any compelling reason for it to exist?

ToDo ToDo has been in limbo for a while because I find it useful as is and want to avoid any duplication of effort if I can send tasks to Mobile Cal. Any urgent feature requests?

XLaunch Icon hiding isn’t going to be a feature because of some deep-seated philosophical issues I have about running as user mobile and respecting ownerships. Any other requests?

Much Better FindMe37 Comments

Erica Sadun | 6:06 pm | | Test Requests, Utilities, Software, iPod touch, iPhone

I’ve placed a much better version of the findme utility into the TUAW folder. Run it with -h to see all the options. You can now output a single google maps URL, request just the latitude/longitude, submit your value to Twitter.

I’ll be adding Yahoo ZoneTag support soon as well. If you have any special requests, speak now because I don’t have a ton of time to devote to this project.
