App Focus: SendPics, SendFile, SendSong, ToDo, etc.

SendPics Last night, I think I cracked the whole getting pictures from the library as well as the DCIM folder thing. Is anyone interested in my expanding SendPics (which sends full-resolution images by email) to pictures that weren’t snapped on the iPhone?
SendFile SendFile is still a big-old hack. Depending on how Apple delivers the SDK, do any of you think it’s worth a re-look? I’d have to redesign it from the ground up. So think about what you might want SendFile to do and give me some ideas of where you’d like to see it go.
SendSong I updated SendSong to 1.1.3 as a favor for a friend. Is there still any compelling reason for it to exist?
ToDo ToDo has been in limbo for a while because I find it useful as is and want to avoid any duplication of effort if I can send tasks to Mobile Cal. Any urgent feature requests?
XLaunch Icon hiding isn’t going to be a feature because of some deep-seated philosophical issues I have about running as user mobile and respecting ownerships. Any other requests?

Is there anyway that any of these apps could be used for two things:
1) An mms work around to send stuff to phones without email?
2) To send ringtones to other people’s phones? I had some ringtones that I would’ve liked to send to other phones.
Those are my thoughts. Thanks for asking about opinions.
I’ve appreciated your work thus far.

Hey Erica,
Regarding SendFile, I personally think that it is one of the most useful applications ever. I use it all the time for work and would love to see it’s development continued. May it be possible to have it e-mail files not only in /Documents?
Possibly similar to how DropCopy for the iPhone works, with the internal file browser. (Just a thought :))
Thanks for all you do!

Erica,
I agree, SendFile is one of the most useful applications available. Would love to see it work with Media/Documents and also with /var/root/Downloads.
When you graciously posted the link for 1.1.4, I was able to use the MobileSafari Plugin to download onto my phone. Yes, your most excellent utliity SendFileByMail can do the job.
However, SendFile is simply one of the best and will be missed.
I would be willing to help out if possible.
Thanks,
Chris

SendFile is definitively great. Any plans for the opposite, namely ReceiveFile, that uses http and or ftp to get files from from PC/Mac at home, etexts from Gutenberg, picts from websites…?

I use SendSong quite a bit.. to listen to music. Say I want to listen to a song from my iPhone on a Mac or Windows computer. I have AFP and Samba installed, so I mount the iPhone, but I have no way of knowing which song is the one I want to listen to. I open SendSong, choose the song I want to listen to, and it opens an email with the song attached, revealing its filename. Then I do a search for the file, typically something cryptic like TAFZ.m4a, and once I locate it I just navigate to it and open to listen. Until there is an easier way to have access to the database that keeps track of the music files and associates them with their info, SendSong is much appreciated. Thanks!

Erica, you are amazing. Now on to the topic of discussion. As for all these “send” applications I think they have their use. And adding the ability to send photos from your ipod photos rather than just dcim/100apple would be amazing imho. But a lot of people are using them in ways that originally were not meant for the applications. It sounds to me (and maybe this is because its what I want) that we need an app that either works with mobile finder (since it allows files to be opened using plugins) or like mobiel finder in that you can browse all your files and view them or send them via email. instead of having 3 dif. apps, combine it all into one. Also I’d love to have (either in this app or another) a way to view/listen to video/audio with actual controls etc. Making apps like ncftp pretty cool because I could retrieve files off my compture and watch or listen to them directly from my phone without being anywhere near my comp. Lastly if you found a way to get to the ipod photos would it also be possible to get to the ipod music/videos and if so is it also possible to ADD files INTO the music/videos, which I could then use ncftp to add files directly to my ipod thus eliminating the need to sync my songs/videos alltogether (theoretically lol)

p.s. I know playaudio plays video and audio but… its a huge pain typing in all the files etc… especially since the file must be typed exactly how it is and some of my music files have large file names.
and from my experience you have to let the song end before closing terminal or it will mess everything up

maybe it is already possible to do, but i would like to be able to download large powerpoint files and few the slideshow on my iphone. Then be able to delete the file at the end of the slide show.
I’m talking like 25 to 50 mb files with images and stuff.
Also, would like to be able to zoom in on the images.
Maybe i’ll have to wait for the official SDK for this though.
I enjoy your blogs. thanks for everything

Hi Erica,
You have made my iPhone better than it ever could have been. Thanks a million, and thanks for asking opinions.
First, I would love to see SendPics work with photo albums. It would be a great addition to the program, and I hope to see it.
I personally haven’t used SendFile, but it seems like a lot of people use it, and it’s probably worth keeping around.
I love SendSong. I use it all the time and I’d hate to see it go. It’s amazingly convenient to be able to send anyone any song from my iTunes library from my pocket.
ToDo is fine how it is. I have no urgent feature requests. But as far as to do lists go, it is really self-satisfying to be able to cross things off. Just throwing that idea out there.
I love XLaunch, the coverflow addition really topped it off. I can’t think of anything else.
Well, I hope I’ve been a help. Your work is awesome.
Thanks

I can’t honestly say that I have ever used any of your Send applications besides SendFile, but I believe that there will come a time in the future when they will come in handy. I think it would be a good idea to make sure they are all 1.1.3/4 compatible, mostly because they are the kind of apps that there is always someone who really needs it although it seems useless to others.
I would love to see the ability to cross out tasks or have a check box in ToDo. Swipe to delete would also be a nice feature to have. I also think that “New” should come up with a dialog for naming the task rather than making one called ttd which is just meant to be changed, anyway. If you can manage to squeeze these features in to ToDo it will be a really great app.
I have no complaints or suggestions for XLaunch. It is a great application and is almost perfect. I do have a question, though- what does “Assign to home key” do?
Comment by Erica Sadun | March 10, 2008 | 11:51 am
Assign to Home Key lets you launch the program from the home key via double-clicking.
So no matter what you’re doing if you want to run that home key program, just double-click the home key.

Erica,
Can’t thank you enough for all the great work. I just grabbed xlaunch and am quite happy, but is the assign to home key functionality currently bugged on the touch? Double home key clicks still bring up the touch’s default music popup even after resprings and resets (on 1.1.4 by the way).
Comment by l3abez | June 2, 2008 | 3:07 pm
is there anyway to use send song on 1.1.4 without having to go into each song and making them a 30 second clip?
Comment by zdavatz | June 24, 2008 | 2:48 am
1. When I try to run “sendsong” it get the following error:
192:/Applications/SendSong.app root# ./sendsong
dyld: Library not loaded: libarmfp.dylib
Referenced from: /private/var/root/Applications/SendSong.app/./sendsong
Reason: image not found
Trace/BPT trap
2. When I try to start it from my Springboard, the Application simply crashes.
3. I am on Firmware 1.1.3.
Thank you for your Feedback.
Best

Question: Is there an option to send a song to my Alarm clock so I can wake-up to a tune of my choice?
Thank you for your Feedback.

Is there ever going to be support to have DressUp available for 2.0? I loved this application and made many custom templates.

Just wondering if there were any plans on adding sendpic to the appstore?
