Weekend and open SDK work16 Comments

Erica Sadun | 4:27 pm | March 28, 2008 | Admin

I’ve been so busy with the new Apple SDK that a lot of the normal software development has been pushed to the side. If you have any specific bug reports or feature requests that aren’t too time consuming please let me know in the comments. Apologies again for being so hard to pin down.

In search of iPod Touch Developer3 Comments

Erica Sadun | 4:21 pm | | job opportunities

Clive writes that he’s looking to hire a developer to write an application for the iPod Touch. To avoid 802.11 conflicts, he needs an application that takes the browser and directs it to the USB port, rather than the WiFi port of an iPod, perhaps using a push-button enable. If anyone thinks they might be able to help him, drop a comment here (make sure to  use a valid email address) and I’ll send you Clive’s contact details.

Your email is bouncing–you’re over quota.  You can download all the recent versions of voicenotes directly from this site. Just read back through past posts to figure out which version goes with which firmware release.

I’ve been so busy these past two week learning and documenting the new SDK that everything else seems to have fallen by the wayside.  I want to thank everyone who’s stopped by to see what’s up and left comments. I apologize that work has taken so much of my time but new technology has a tendency to do that.I also want to thank the outstanding volunteers who have been helping me answer email. If you’ve sent a question in the past month or so, it’s probably been answered by one of these helpers. Had it been left to me, the message probably would have been pushed to the side with good intentions and no follow-through. Thanks go out to Andrew, Andrew, Chris, Daniel, Gad, Juan, Daniel, Yoann, Ryan and everyone else who has pitched in. You have done more than I ever dreamed possible. Thank you.

iPhone Development Opportunity: Looped Video Playback3 Comments

Erica Sadun | 1:04 pm | | job opportunities, Admin

Solly writes: “I want to pay someone to devolop an iphone app. where a short looped videos playsback when receiving a call. I know the sdk doesnt allow that, so therefore cannot be distributed through itunes. The only solution would be a hack and would be manually installed by the users.” If you’re interested in talking with Solly, drop a comment on this post (make sure you post with an email I can reply to) and I’ll forward along his contact info.

Headers taken down3 Comments

Although my headers were obtained and documented before I had access to the iPhone SDK, I have pre-emptively taken them down.

Useless. And amusing. See this.

New: To-Do List Manager for the SDK8 Comments

Erica Sadun | 2:51 pm | | Simulator, Update, Applications, Software

If you’ve installed the SDK, you can download and run a copy of my iPhone To-Do list software from my new SDK application folder. It’s basically my old ToDo list app ported to the new SDK, which took far longer than I honestly thought it would. No re-ordering yet on cells. When we either soft-upgrade to 1.2, or get an Apple 1.2 firmware upgrade, it should be able to run natively. For now, the point was to get a program running, figure out how to distribute and install it (instructions are on the linked page) so that it could be tested and used in the wild. So, you know, like “Yay!”

iPhone 1.2 Headers6 Comments

Erica Sadun | 6:21 pm | March 6, 2008 | Admin, Documentation, Coding, iPod touch, iPhone

Man have they *ever* cut back on the public headers. More about that later. Thanks to asap18 (I don’t have the SDK downloaded yet), the 1.2 “Aspen” framework docs are uploading now. When they go live, I’ll add a link on the left. For now, let me add that class-dump is *not* working on these stripped frameworks and that Apple has put nearly every *interesting* framework into /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks. Fortunately my dear friend UIKit is in business but with 31 headers instead of 300-odd. Please ignore the fact that I mistook the 1.2 release for a 2.0 beta. I’ll be fixing the link at the side and renaming the folder but all the docs are going to be screwed up because doxygen puts the name on every single page. Apologies.
