hey erica..hw u doin…js registrd n my frst post..its all great stuf uv got goin on…lol..ino..
ok..heres my q..using garageband to make ringtones..very nice but i have started having an issue with that..i had two ringtones for about 10 days or so but then i made three others and thats when they stopped syncing properly, any new one just duplicates one from the new three like if i have made a, b and c as the three ringtones and if i sync(manually with 7.6) a first then b and c would also show up as a and a so iv got like 3 a’s . i think it might be an issue with itunes 7.6. but maybe uv got a hint..??!!
iphone 1.1.2 jailbroken and unlocked.

Hiya, Erica. You’re doing excellent work.
I’ve got a question for you: is there any way to tell, from the web server side, whether an iPhone browser is using Edge or WiFI? It would really help to be able to tailor content to connection speed (providing low-resolution video for edge, for instance).
Presumably it can be done with Javascript and measuring the download speed of a test file, but is there a better way? IP addresses that Edge users come from, browser agent string, anything?

It would be really nice to have vnotes working on the ipod touch. Any chance of working out the compatibility bugs? it’s quite a sought after app… I also suggest expanding with multi-track capabilities..
In either case…vnotes is a must have… please consider fixing the compatibility issues for the ipod touch users.

hi erica.
First id like to say thsnks for really cool apps! And it was a shame listen had to die…
Well i have a request… Could you make an app that would enable us to set the output medium to, like for example, bluetooth headset? It could be really cool to listen to music on our iphones wirelessly! Thanks

Erica,
I may have just thought of a workaround for 1.1.3.
I upgraded today from a jailbroken 1.1.2 phone to 1.1.3. Out of habit, I double tapped my home button to write an e-mail and it worked! That means that iPhoneHome still works after the upgrade… sooo… use your XLaunch app and WHAMMO!
Someone needs to try this before I take the time to downgrade and do it myself.

Hi Erica,
I´m having some problems with MACaddy, after copying the files through sftp to the /Applications folder, I´m able to see the icon to start the app but when I click on it, it just shows a blank screen.
Any clues ?

I don’t know what all you did to your iphone after you tried downgrading to 1.1.1. I was wondering if you simply tried to go back to a jailbroken 1.1.2?

hi Erica,
are you aware of any NTP application that could set the system time on an iPhone or Touch ? I was browsing through the bin directories and no NTP client was found. I sure could use this util, even on the command line, to ensure my clock is running on time.

I recently upgraded from a jailbroke 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 and found out I can no longer connect to an itunes inside a virtual machine. I know it’s not the jailbreak making the difference because I’ve also connected using an unjailbroken 1.1.1 & 1.1.2 and I also tried a few different older versions of itunes in case the problem just happened to be in the latest update to it, but nope.I would appreciate any ideas as I am a Linux man and itunes is the only thing keeping me chained to windows and it really bits having to dual boot to windows just to sync : (

Hi Erica,
Thanks for your great apps. I was wondering if you could come up with an app that does what 1.1.3 does for webpages. Can you make an app that can do that for Contacts. for instance goto contacts and pick one and in that contact setting have: and to homepage. and also give to the option to select which phone number you want it to be: home, mobile, work and so. So on the home page you will have an icon with the contacts name or pic, and when you tap it, it will dial directly to the number you picked. I was wonder if you could do that. Thanks!!!

Hi Erica,
I’m trying to learn how to program for the iphone/itouch, but I’m not to good with COCOA. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to release some of your source code for some of your tools. If you don’t want to release it to everyone, perhaps you can email me (the address on my account here) some of it so I can look at it and get a feel for iphone programming. Thanks

@reggie
you can also search for iapp-a-day. Sean heber released the code for about 30 apps I believe. Also check the google code pages related to iPhone.
Cheers,
rudi

Hi there!
Thanks for the great work!
I have a BIG question for you please. If I install the prep for 1.1.3 firmware, taking into consideration that I now have 1.1.1 firmware installed, would I be able to then install the 1.1.3 firmware update from iTunes without locking my iphone or damaging anything?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Comment by Erica Sadun | January 23, 2008 | 8:46 am
There is no 1.1.3 prep–last I heard it was a malicious file.

Hi Erica,
I understand that you are one of the most knowledgeable on the iPhone and other apple products.
I have a few basic questions and hope you can guide me and take time out to reply
I have an iPhone (Ww48) so I am guessing this is 1.1.2. I also understand that the only unlock possible is by using a stealthsim / turbosim / nextsim / hypersim.
This is were my confusion is
1. Is it safe to use the USD 10 turbosim (made in HK)? Does the battery life reduce when we use this? or shall i go in for slightly expensive one like USD 40
2. When i jailbreak the 1.1.2, can i use the blue tooth headset, wifi and edge applications?
3. what do i need to do to permanently prevent an upgrade as i understand that if i upgrade the firmware, the phone may get bricked
4. Once i use the hardware unlock and jailbreak, is there a procedure to reverse this?
Hope these are some questions which you will take time out to answer
Thanks
Nikhil Bagri

@nikhil
you should find all your answers over at one of the many forums like modmyifone
I’d bet a good google search would give your answer.
