Test Request: Listen Beta 5

Erica Sadun | 2:49 pm | January 9, 2008 | Test Requests, Feature Requests, Update, iPhone

Beta 5 offers several new features. First and most obviously, there’s now a button that starts song sampling. After sampling one song, you can sample another without leaving and restarting the application.Once sampling has finished, the status bar brightens when it tells you “connecting to server”. This allows users to know when they can relax and let Listen.app do its job. It’s a small change but one that I very much like.I no longer use an alert sheet to offer options. After a song has been identified, a navigation bar allows you to “Send Note” by email and, as mentioned, the sampling button also re-appears. p.s. Please use Beta 5, not Beta 4. Version 4 does not bring back the button if a song is not found.

Great improvement.

I have found one small bug: it doesn’t give you the resample button if it fails :-P

This app allready is awesome!

Will be nice if the [Start Sampling] button still be visible if a song was not found.

Good work!

After my series of beta3’s crashes, I can sa that beta4 actually works !
But it gives me more “no song found” than the beta1 used to.

Also, it looks like the “search other song” button doesn’t show up after a “no song found”.

Keep up with the good work.
BTW I had to chmod -R 755 in order to get it working (I might have forgot the -R while I was trying the beta3)

I like the status bar brightening too - subtle, but very helpful. Also love that you can go straight onto another song if desired after one is identified. Really nice, fast updates on this …

Server is down again–that’s why you’re getting all the no song stuff.

Beta 5 fixes the bit where the button doesn’t come back after ‘not found”

Erica–thanks for doing all that you do and have done for the iPhone community. I have honestly spent the better part of a couple hours just playing with Listen. I drive in the car, skipping from radio station to station, trying it out. This is one of those programs that shows the incredible potential of the iPhone. I know other phones can do this, but having this ability on the iPhone just goes to show how flexible the platform is. This program, and Labyrinth are probably the two programs I will use to show the “coolness” of the iPhone. And thanks for VNotes–I use it extensively, as I’m in the car a lot, and typing while driving ain’t such a hot idea.

Fixes it so button comes back after not found = sounds good …

It would be nice if the next version of the app could give a different error for server not responding and song not found.
