SendSong: Updated to 1.1.3
Erica Sadun | 10:26 am | January 30, 2008 | Test Requests, Update, Software, iPhone
Good news: It’s updated.
Bad news: You can only use it with .m4a files and it’s slow to load because it has to search for those artists who have m4a music.
Version is 0.32 and it’s available for download now.

erica,
sendsong is the best app. unfortunately your 1.1.3 version does not seem to work on my iphone. when i launch it, i get a white screen for few seconds, and then i guess the app crashes and i am back to my springboard.
i am running 1.1.3 jailbroken with nate’s method, upgraded directly from 1.1.1
any idea why?
Comment by Erica Sadun | January 31, 2008 | 8:38 am
White screen + crash == you didn’t make it executable.
Please chmod 755 SendSong.app/sendsong

Thank you for your work

Hi Erica,
I actually have the same problem with an app that I created myself using your MIM as a template.
What I wanted to do was to create a simple application that does nothing more but execute a shell-script. So I used makeitmine inside MIM.app and exchanged it for my simple shell-script which does nothing more than copying a file. I made it executable and when I log into my iPhone via ssh, I can successfully execute the shell-script. But when I press the MIM button on the iPhone, I just see the white screen for a short time and then the desktop again and nothing has happened, the shell-script was not executed.
What do I do wrong ? Is it not that simple ?
Greetings,
Bernhard

Hi BMueller, what you’re looking for is “do Shell”
It’s in the Developer folder on the ftp site.

Duniy: Shaun is working as hard as he can to get stuff out but real life sometimes take priority.
Please send good thoughts his way and hope that his little furry (16+yearold) friend Maurice is not in pain.

Ouch this does not work well with 1.1.3 like it did before, anyway to fix that where i can choose my MP3’s it converts them to the right format puts in the ringtone directory
great work and thanks
Comment by marcoiac | February 1, 2008 | 10:37 am
dallasnights,
i am not sure i understand. does it work for you? i made it executable (thanks erica, i should have thought that), it opens, and stays open but it does not show any file. erica said it is slow. how slow? i have tons of songs, and plenty of .m4a, so it should see them at some point.
one more question: are you saying it also converts mp3? erica said it only works with m4a
thanks

Hi Erica! I think the work you do is great! Thank You! Ever since I updated to 1.1.3 my ringtones don’t work. I am not too technical so maybe I have done something wrong. I now have SendSong .31 and it has worked to clear out my ringtone list but I can’t get any of them to work. When I set the ringtone and then go into settings the ringtones don’t play. All of the default ringtones play but Marimba. I have made sure to reboot like your pdf states but nothing is resolving the issue. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Downloaded SendSong .31 beta and installed via Installer. SendSong appeared to have detected the songs and sent to Ringtones, where they show up. However, now none of the standard or customised ringtones now work ! Please Help !!!
THANKS !
Comment by Erica Sadun | February 3, 2008 | 5:55 pm
Try trashing the Ringtones.plist file and re-syncing and starting fresh
Comment by David | February 3, 2008 | 7:38 pm
Erica, this is a bit odd, I downloaded SendSong .31 from installer before I saw this post. It detected mp3s, played and emailed them just fine. Did you mean that .32 doesn’t read mp3s at all or was that comment just in reference to Ringtones ?
Comment by dallasnights | February 4, 2008 | 8:05 am
Where can i find that file and will it ruin my regular ringtones which do work fine, thanks Erica
Comment by leandrow | February 4, 2008 | 11:55 am
dallasnights if you already have ssh set-up, its in /private/var/root/media/itunes_control/itunes/
Pls someone correct me if im wrong
And about that resync part, i havent tried it yet, but as soon i get home i’ll try that out and let you know. Im having the exact same issue here.
Brgds

its /private/var/mobile/media/itunes_control/itunes
Sorry about that.
Comment by dallasnights | February 4, 2008 | 1:20 pm
K removed the Plist you mentioned, no effect, it does clean out the custom section but the ringtones do not play, I think the problem is the file needs to be sent to Var/ringtones,dragged a file there and that worked, hmm, thanks all
Comment by 1esoteric | February 4, 2008 | 1:55 pm
Deleted Ringtones.plist and resynced, and standard ringtones do not play. Also sent custome m4a files and they do not play either. Dallasnights, I tried your method, but again did not work. Any other suggestions to try ?
BTW.. by VAR/ringtones you mean var/root/media/itunes_control/itunes/ringtones ?
Comment by dallasnights | February 4, 2008 | 3:22 pm
I dragged the ringtone M4r extension - to the var/ringtones, rebooted the phone and then it was there along with the standard ringtones on my phone so now its in that list, probably not the correct way to do it but it works
Comment by 1esoteric | February 4, 2008 | 5:46 pm
Deleting the ringtones folders content has allowed me to regain use of the standard ringtones, after resync. However, all ringtones now appear in duplicate, but only 1 copy of each duplicate works :). Have tried dragging custom ringtones into the Ringtones folder, but does not work. dallasnights, your M4r files.. are they 30 sec duration or full song lengths ?
PS SendSong appears as if it is sending the custom songs to Ringtone folder, but nothing appears there. Maybe i should just wait until all twists etc have been figured out !
Comment by dallasnights | February 4, 2008 | 9:07 pm
Mine are 30sec, Erica will figure it out she is a genious:)
Comment by slicksilk2002 | February 5, 2008 | 11:59 pm
Hello Erica! I hope all is well. I re synced all of my music and still the same problem. The songs that I send to the ringtone list don’t play. Any further suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Hi Erica,
I am using version 1.1.1 and have the SendSong application previously installed. However, I have it unstalled due to some technical problem of the Installer. And now I would like to install this back again but it isnt successful because the app on the Installer is for 1.1.3, therefore how can I get the 1.1.1 version back whereas I cannot upgrade to filmware 1.1.3??
Sendsong is the best application!! Thanks.

Hi,
I have the same issues as fchoi too. My phone version is 1.1.1 and “send song” in installer is for 1.1.3.
I still want to maintain at firmware 1.1.1 at this moment. And I do download the previous version of Send Song (zip file). After that, what should I do next ?
Thanks.

How do i make send song executable? What do i use to chmod 755 SendSong.app/sendsong? The Installer only has Send Song for version 1.1.3 and i am on 1.1.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Erica, keep up the great work!
I too am having the same issue as a bunch of people here… I just upgraded to 1.1.3 and after installing sendsong, none of my ringtones will play. They do show up, but no sound comes out when they are selected. I’ve rebooted a ton of times with no luck. I have no problem with the 1.1.1 version of sendsong as that worked without a hitch for me.

Hello, I have iphone firmware 1.1.1 with Installer.app. When I try to install the latest SendSong, I got an error saying firmware 1.1.3 is required. Erica, could you fix SendSong to also support 1.1.1 or provide procedure how to install the previous SendSong version that supported firmware 1.1.1?. Thanks a lot, Jozef
Comment by scottbak | February 17, 2008 | 10:53 am
Firmware 1.1.3 sendsong: I have always used it and I have upgraded to 1.1.3 firmware and .032 beta of Sendsong. Well, it just hangs at a white screen (doesn’t ever crash). So, I converted an mp3 to m4a, then renamed it to m4r and copied it via scp to the root/Library/Ringtones, and it appears in my ringtones automagically. I set it and it works. So I think if you were to find the m4a files, then rename them and copy to that directory it would solve all the issues.

Please make a 1.1.1 version! =)
Thanks a lot!

Hello there, I am new to this add app thing. My 1.0.2 ran SendSong without a hitch, but my 1.1.3 refuses to even launch it.
Pardon my ignorance, but I don’t understand what “make it executable” means nor do I know how to do it.
Also even after refreshing my sources on “Installer”, I still can only download version 0.31 (not 0.32) of SendSong.
Can someone please provide a simple answer.
Cheers.

Hello, i try to get the music list with the MusicLibrary class but it doesn’t work because MusicLibrary get the iTunesDB file in root folder instead mobile folder (1.1.4 firmware).
If i create symbolic links (iTunesDB and ArtworkDB), it’s works but i try to do it without creating symlinks.
So i tried with initWithPath like PLPhotoLibrary sample but it doesn’t works (alloc failed and if i try with sharedMusicLibrary, i get a bus error).
Can you tell me how you get the music list for firmware > 1.1.2 (with mobile folder) ?
Thank you
