Test Request: VNotes
Erica Sadun | 11:18 pm | November 26, 2007 | Bug Fixes, Test Requests, Bug Reports, Update, iPod touch, Software, iPhone
Please test for stability, for text editing (renaming), etc, and leave feedback in the comments. Thank you! Test version is here. For iPhone only–unless you have a MicroMemo or other iPod recording accessory.
This version should fix/add:
- Fixes keyboard/crash bug.
- Updates all my file access code.
- Allows new “edit text” mode, where you can switch which item you’re editing.
- Adds reorder for list after alphabetical order changes.
- Adds Voice Note import. (Per request)
- Works better (but not perfectly) with long lists and the remove controls that go past one screen.

Is there any way to get high quality recordings out of vnotes? Like high quality recordings on an ipod (later generations)…. (?)

Vnotes is still crashing when I try to edit a name. I can send or play fine. With multiple items present, I can switch between items when in the Name edit mode, but as soon as I click any key on the keyboard, I crash and am returned to Springboard. I tried deleting the Recordings folder and letting the app recreate it, but it made no difference. The privs on the Recordings folder is 755, but the recording are 644. Changing them to 755 made no difference.

David: Which version did you test?
Comment by David | November 27, 2007 | 12:45 pm
Erica: The readme inside the package says Voice Notes 0.18. Maybe you could include the version in the footer, since I don’t see any easy way to determine it without opening the package.

The version I need testing isn’t in a package. It’s the one linked to on this post.

Since I’m using the Celestial prebuilt recorder right now, high quality recordings are not an option. Maybe as I move to other libraries.

Erica: I’m using the term “package” to refer to the Mac application package. I AM using the one linked to on this post.

Wow. There’s a readme in there! I forgot completely about it!

Erica, sorry for the off topic post but didn’t know where else to contact you.
I was wondering if it is possible to create a utility to auto-retry sending SMS messages when the signal is not strong enough to send them, I find myself frequently with only 1-2 bars and have to try 4-5 times before a SMS will actually go through. It’s one of my biggest problems with the iPhone. Just wondering your thoughts on the idea of the app….
Thanks for all the great apps and all that you do for the iPhone community!

Erica,
Crashes when I edit a name as well. As soon as I tap on a char on the keyboard.
I’m using the one you linked on this post…35440 bytes, dated Nov 26, 18:56
I also played with directory & file permissions, to no avail. (777 on Recordings/ and 666 on the .amr files didn’t help).

Erica,
I also noticed that you sort the recordings by name, not by recording (creation) time. (I got rename to work — SSH into Recordings/).
So… when you rename a file, it re-sorts the list.

hi erica, you are doing a great job with our iphones…. I have a sugestion for the vnotes, I think it would be great if you put a share button as in send file so that we dont have to move the file manually. Thank you again

Oops!
Erica, I just saw that v0.23 was available through installer.app, so I picked it up. But it sent my iPhone into reboot when I recorded my first message.
The iPhone comes up fine after reboot, and all the extra apps are there, and my message is listed under Vnotes, but there is no recording.
I hope I have made this clear.
