Hi!, just letting you know there is a procedure posted on the iphone dev teams forum for fixing the baseband on iUnlocked 1.0.2 iphones.

You have a great column on TUAW.

vnotes is a great application. It would be helpful if it supported bluetooth as well, especially for playback.
Thanks for all the work you’ve done making the iphone more useful

Support bluetooth how? I’m not sure what you’re asking the bluetooth to do. For playback? Recording? sharing?

Hey Erica, thanks so much for all your work!
Was wondering if you have much experience with Flash. The fact that the iPhone does not run the player has been really frustrating for the Flash dev community.
More specifically, any idea if the various tools that convert Flash swf files into OSX desktop applications could be used to create a Flash iPhone app?, as a lot of them embed the whole Flash player within the .app. Granted it would not be the best use of memory, but I could live with it under certain circumstances.
Thanks again!

Sorry. I’m not a flash expert. I just use VLC on the mac or QuickTime with Perian. As for the iPhone, I’m told it’s a non-trivial deal to port over.

Jaime: Thanks for the tip! I added a post over at TUAW.

OpenURL is great! I was wondering if it would be possible to create a similar wrapper for command line script files (.sh, .pl, .py, php, etc)? This could be quite powerful when stacked with the additional command line tools provided.

Hey pm: I’ve uploaded a really early utility of mine called “do shell”. It, as the name suggests, runs a shell script stored in the app package.

Thanks for that Erica. DoShell is amazing! I’ve created a little app I call ‘SnapUp’ which simply uses php to upload recently taken camera photos to my own webserver.
Cheers!

Hi Erica, I am having a problem, after following that revirginizing procedure, It worked, kind of….. I upgraded succesfully to 1.1.1, but after doing another step I got into a situation when reboting it would go into the restore screen and connect to itunes. After several hours of trying I finally got it to go back to 1.0.2, but I have no wifi, and the phone is not activated, and I cannot activate it with independence because it cannot read the sim card. My guess is that there is something wrong with the baseband sw.
Do you know of a way to activate with out having to read the sim card?? or is there a way to execute programs on a terminal over usb?? maybe with iPhuc? so that I can try to reflash the baseband? pleeeeaaase email me or answer here… thanks!!

Hi Erica,
Is it possible to get rid of the top bar in the Redlight utility?
That little bar of white light is enough to ruin the users night vision which defeats the purpose of the red light.

Hey Erica,
I love your Voice Notes app.
It would be great if you could add a feature that a beep is sounded whenever you start or stop a recording. This is helpful when you record a note while driving and don’t want to look at the screen too much.
Thanks!

Erica,
Great work on all this stuff! I was wondering if you’d considered integrating iPhucUtils or MedUtils with MacFuse in order to enable a true mounted disk mode. (Maybe with a command line option to select the iphuc/full access vs. restricted-to-Media-folder access?)
I hacked together a bare-bones proof of concept (using ruby-fusefs to call MedUtils’ util via a shell), but it’d be far cooler as a single integrated utility.

Whoops. Never mind.

Hey Erica!
First of all - Thanks for the great work! I really appreciate it!
Now - a little question: I bought an iPhone two weeks ago, used iNdependence to activate/Jailbreak it and then tried to use anySim for the unlock - which didn’t work. I always got an error at the end of the process. So I downloaded your unlock.app - which took longer to process, but worked flawlessly (thanks again! :).
My problem is now, does your unlock.app mess up the baseband as well, as anySim obviously does? Would I be safe to upgrade to 1.1.1 and be able to jailbreak/unlock it after that?
I might have to mention, that I’m not sure which FW I had, when I bought the iPhone. After the Jailbreak, I found out that I had German Umlauts (which I learned later aren’t part of FW 1.0.2).
Thanks for your help - and let me know to where I can make any donations/contributions

I have an idea for an application for the iphone:
A vibrating feedback feature for when the keys are pressed.
Basically every time you press a key the phone vibrates. The feature is found in the new LG Viewty, and i think it would be awesome! They (C|Net) say it feels like you’re actually pressing a key on a regular keyboard (kind of).

JAT Observatory: It’s pretty unlikely that I can get rid of the top bar–but I’ll look into it.

Mr. B — I don’t have an unlock app! That work was done by other people. I just helped out a little bit with some interface questions.

Hi Erica
I was trying to run your application doShell but it seems not working on my case. When I start the application, it starts something like the Light application and do nothing at all. It seems the same even if I run the doShell as it downloaded without changing anything. Have I missed anything ?
Thanks again for your patient. btw, the new app showPic works great and now I can view my snapshots on my touch…

You’ll need to customize the shell and make sure it works (with bsd subsystem, etc) before running the app. Also make sure doShell is set to +x
Comment by peter | November 2, 2007 | 12:20 pm
I have already have BSD subsystem installed and doShell and all files set to 755..
I have tried running it from SSH by issuing the command “./doshell” and it works perfectly by adding “pkill doshell” at the end. But it fails to work with the Springboard icon. It gave me a blank screen like the “Light” utility and then close by the “pkill” command and will stay forever without the “pkill”.. any idea what’s wrong ?

Peter: I’m not sure why certain things run well from Springboard and others don’t. I’m struggling with this right now with a utility I’m working on. If I find out anything more, I’ll post. Please let me know if you find out too!
SpiritFlare: You probably need to go back in from the command-line and modify the SpringBoard.app M68ap.plist file

Mavrik: I’m pretty sure the alarm will *not* read your entire library. So if you want, you’ll have to use ringtones for now. Don’t forget to reboot after installing new ringtones.
As for launching at a certain time, consider setting up a cron job. I’m not sure if there are any apps yet that let you do that with an arbitrary script or program.

JBPHill: try using the full URL with http:// and see if that works better for you
Comment by peter | November 4, 2007 | 8:44 am
Thanks Erica…in that case I will wait for your findings and I have no clues on it.. in fact, the script I have tried is as simple as the following
#!/bin/sh
~/bin/doAlert “testing”
pkill doshell
Really have no clue..even the doshell package which came in raw have the same effect…
